Tacoeater 1000 is off and running. I think I’ll try to put together some sort of scoreboard that will keep a running total of tacos consumed. I’ve had some comments about what constitutes a taco with some naysayers claiming that anything with spelt can’t be a taco. I believe all tacos are created equally. In general, I see them as falling into three categories, Texmex, Authentico, and Hippie style. There’s also Baja style
but I’d say that falls under Authentico.
Dallas seems to have mostly Authentico – Usually served on small corn tortillas with some variety of greesy meat and sparse veggies. Meat is often of questionable quality in the Authenitico, especially when they are being served from a trailer.
Hippie tacos, a specialty of Austin, Socal, and wherever else hippies can be found have a wide variety of ingredients including veggies never seen before in any self respecting Mexican restaurant.
Texmex – SA has them on every corner – flour tortillas are a must. Extra points for ones made on the spot.
There’s plenty of grey area out there too. I think wraps are way too gringo to count. They’re for sandwich eaters who are trying to be adventurous.
