2009

I brought the new year in by checking out what the Food Network and Bon Apetit magazine have claimed to be the best taco in America.  The place is called Taco Taco on Hildabrand in SA. Their world famous taco is called the Norteño.  The tortilla was extra large and made on the spot.  An option of either greesey beef of chicken was available.  The Norteño also comes with a smattering of refried beans and a smidgeon of avacado.  Unfortunately, the Norteño did not meet expectations.  While it was a decent taco, I definitely wouldn’t rate it  anywhere near best taco in America, or even SA.  I think they stole their large taco concept from their neighbors down the street, Rolando’s Super Taco, who have tacos that are far superior.

Dear Taco Diary

December 5, 2008 by zlite

Today I’ve had one potato and egg taco. Yesterday I had 3 fish tacos for lunch and 3 Mexico City specials for dinner. The previous day it was two brisket tacos for dinner and two for lunch. Monday we had brisket tacos round one – 5 tacos eaten.  Saturday we had spectacularly tasty tacos from my favorite SA taco distributor – Chachos – five tacos eaten. Later that day I broke tortilla with the Hodge family, one more taco eaten.  That brings it to a total of  23 tacos since the last entry.   Who says I can’t eat 1k?

Bloated

I suffered a setback last night.  I foolishly poisoned myself with salsa that had gone bad.  I tend to push the limit on when food is gone too bad to eat but this time I got burned.  Luckily, its not as bad as the time Poops and I got Salmonella poisoning from some mysterious road side tacos in rural southern Mexico.  That was my first turd rodeo.  Pooping into a ziploc bag is not cool.

H has been working to get me back up to speed on the Tacos- I’m now 11 tacos closer.  I’m seeing some turkey tacos in my future!

This weekend was highly successful! Despite the blustery conditions and lack of sleep, Saturday’s Hooters Cyclocross Rumble Presented by Taco Eater 1K went well.  Over 90 people came out to suffer the punishing course I set up in Norbuck park. About half way through my race I was really questioning myself why I made it so hard. But then again, it seems like easy cyclocross races don’t exist.  I was happy with my racing Saturday as I only got lapped by one person – the unstoppable German, Stephan Rothe.  I’ve got to take what I can get!   Winners walked away with custom Taco Eater Medals, Hooters merchandise, and cash. – One lucky winner even got a bottle of Crown. We also had breakfast tacos for all. Unfortunately, I only had one – my taco eating is in a serious remission.  Tacos don’t seem to work very well for pre race food but I never learn my lesson. kAnus may put on a bad ass race with famous San Antonio rock bands and a bouncy house for the kiddies, but I dont recall any breakfast tacos for the taking.

Sunday’s race had grade A weather. Too bad my racing skills weren’t much better on day two.  After visiting the pavement early in the race I pretty much got lapped by everyone and their grandma.
